What to do if a cat keeps meowing in the car, and why does it happen?

Tips for pet owners who love to travel with their companions.

If you have ever traveled in a car with a cat, you have probably witnessed the constant meowing throughout the journey.

Let’s explain why this happens.

The thing is, for pets, the trip is often not an exciting experience but a serious stress caused by a sudden change in their environment.

By meowing, cats express their fear of the unfamiliar.

So what should the owner do in such a situation?

Here are some helpful tips:

  • If your plans involve long journeys with your furry companion, it is advisable to get your pet accustomed to the car as early as possible, quite literally from the first months of their life.
  • A few days before the trip, take out the carrier and place it in a prominent location. It wouldn’t hurt to put your pet’s favorite toy or a soft cushion inside. This way, you will make the carrier a safe space for the cat, which means the journey will be easier for them.
  • It’s worth mentioning a few words about the carrier itself—it should be large and spacious. Placing it on the floor or in the trunk is prohibited—keep the carrier in your hands or place it on a seat, securing it with seat belts.
