Remote work and cats. How does a pet affect our life in quarantine?

The pandemic has changed the lives of not only people but also our four-legged friends. Now owners are able to spend more time with their pets at home. Probably, both the former and the latter like such changes. In addition, cats help people get rid of stress and lift their mood. This has been proven by research by British scientists, The Mirror reports.

Scientists interviewed nearly seven hundred people who have cats and work from home. 63 percent of respondents said that eared cats calm them down. 56 percent say that they feel less lonely around animals. And about the same number say that cats cheer them up. Especially when they do something funny. Such situations, the survey participants say, inspire and give them strength. In addition, some of the respondents said that they are already used to talking to cats and even discussing their work problems with them.

Psychologist Jo Hemings says that pets give their owners a sense of normalcy. For animals, every new day is just another one. According to the expert, cats help reduce anxiety in people.

“They are constantly living in the present moment, and their presence is a great reminder that we need to do the same in a world where we are constantly worried about the future.”

At the same time, experts recommend properly arranging the space if you work at home with your pet. You can place the animal’s resting place next to your “office”. In this case, the pet will always keep you in sight, and you can play with it in your free time. However, take care of the cat’s toys. You will definitely need them in case of important negotiations or during a meeting.
