Keep your pet away from these plants.
If you’re taking your pet to the summer cottage, make sure there are no plants dangerous to them on the premises or keep your dog away from them to avoid harm to your pet’s health.
Lilies.
Tiger lilies and daylilies are most commonly found in summer cottages in the temperate zone. Both varieties pose a danger to dogs: even a small amount of sap from the stems and leaves can cause severe poisoning or even death. Replace these species with safe options like calla lilies or pink lilies, which look beautiful and won’t harm your furry companion.
Crocuses.
Colchicine, found in the leaves and stems of crocuses, is deadly for both dogs and humans. It can cause nausea, vomiting, seizures, and respiratory problems. Make sure your pet doesn’t approach these plants, and if you notice them feasting on the leaves, immediately take them to the veterinarian: symptoms of poisoning may appear several days later.
Oleander.
The poison from this plant remains dangerous even after the shrub dries out or you burn its branches. If oleander sap gets into the eyes, your pet may lose their vision, and consuming even a small piece can lead to death. Transplant this picturesque shrub to an area inaccessible to both dogs and children, and handle the flower with gloves yourself.
Lily of the Valley.
This spring flower contains a toxin that affects the respiratory and circulatory organs and can lead to cardiac arrest in animals. Therefore, do not allow your pets to indulge in Lily of the Valley.
Chrysanthemum.
While this flower repels insects, it is dangerous for animals. Even a small piece of its leaf can cause nausea, vomiting, and seizures. However, the scent of chrysanthemums is very attractive to pets, and dogs are likely to try and eat the plant. If you regularly bring your dog to the summer cottage, it is advisable to refrain from planting chrysanthemums on the premises.
Onion and Garlic.
Although they are not flowers, these plants are deadly for dogs. The essential oils in them can cause vomiting in pets. Keep your dogs away from beds or areas where these spices are grown to prevent poisoning.
